Quick Intro

Making and playing back a simple multi-track recording

  1. When first loaded, QTrackLite will open a file called default.qlw under the recordings sub directory under the directory where you have installed QTrackLite. All the sounds you now record go into this file. It will set this file up as a four track file.
  2. The first two record buttons will be already selected and 'glowing red'. Your first recording will go into tracks 1 and 2. Note that the record and playback buttons are selected to STEREO. Leave them this way.
  3. The next bit's up to you. Find a sound source of some kind and connect it to the sound card.
  4. Press the REC button followed by the PLAY button. Start the sounds going. When you are finished press STOP.
  5. Notice that the two PLAYBACK buttons for tracks 1 and 2 are also selected. Now press the PLAY button and listen to your recording. Adjust the faders on tracks 1 and 2 to alter the sound level. If your recording was from a stereo source, move the PAN fader for track 1 to the extreme left, and that for track two to the extreme right. Now you will hear the stereo effect on the playback.
  6. Now press the two RECORD buttons on tracks 1 and 2 to de- select them. Press the RECORD button for track 3. Prepare a second and different sound source.
  7. Press the REC button followed by the PLAY button. This will begin recording on track 3, together with playback of tracks 1 and 2. Press STOP when you have finished.
  8. Press the PLAYBACK button for track 3. Press PLAY to listen to all three tracks. Adjust the faders to get the right mix. Adjust the PAN controls to create the required stereo image.
  9. Finished with this recording and want to try another? Either press ERASE to clear the file and start again, or if you want to keep this recording, press the CLOSE button to close it off, and then the NEW button to create a new file to record into. This will open a dialog box into which you can enter the new file name (and whatever directory you would like to place it into).
  10. Repeat 1 through 9. Happy recording.
